Italy… Day 1 Continued

Our first day in Italy was a nice, relaxing day.  After checking our the B&B (see the post before this one), we headed to Perugia to pick up a rental car.  Carlo surprised Gio and had a friend of theirs show up!

We then followed Carlo to the Carabinieri Station Gio used to work at.  It was SO neat.  Here’s a glimpse of Carlo in his uniform.

After our tour of the station, we stayed at Gio’s parent’s house for a while and chatted (more like listened and nodded since they didn’t speak English.  We didn’t learn enough Italian either :/)  We knew how to ask where Veneto Street was in Rome, though.  Useful, huh?  But seriously, we learned more than that but it was just the basics so Giovanni had to be our translator the entire time.

Here is my Mom with Gio and his Momma.  His Mom is most likely laughing because we weren’t speaking Italian well enough!

I could have stayed in their yard for hours.  roses. lavender. olives. cherries. pomegranates. hazelnuts. jasmine. figs. loquats. MORE CHERRIES.  They were the best I have ever tasted!

Aside from the vegetation, the view was breathtaking.  There was a run down farm house in the distance and it was gorgeous!  Definitely not like our run down barns that look haunted.  Or some creepy person is using it as their permanent residence.

Best. Cherries. Ever.

Caught a good one of Gio’s Dad.

And his shoes.  Couldn’t leave out his shoes.

Last but not least, their bathroom tile.  This was insanely amazing!  I felt like I was in the Ministry of Magic!!  That small step was tricky though.  I’m pretty sure John and I both almost face-planted into the bathroom door.  I would tell myself while washing my hands, “Ok, Tonya, don’t forget that there’s a small step right there.”  Seconds later you’d hear my ridiculously heavy footstep on the floor.  You know when you’re walking along and you see steps and you think it’s closer than it really is and do a monster-hard stomp on the ground.  It was like that but with a bigger danger factor.

Italy… My Graduation Present . Day 1 .

I graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Arts in May and a month later my Mom and Stepdad took my husband and I to Italy!!  We got to meet Giovanni’s (my stepdad) family and friends for the first time.  It was an amazing experience and hope to go there again some day!

I couldn’t resist taking a sunset photo from the sky.  Of all the times I’ve been on a plane, I’ve never seen the sunset from up there.  This is somewhere over Germany.

Our first place we got to stay was in Assisi called Le Dimore di San Crispino Resort & Spa.  Mom and Gio’s room is the one with the stairs going up and we had the room on the left of them in the corner.  It was away from the city and out in the country.  Every morning we awoke to the chirping of birds outside our window and the scent of lavender!  I would definitely stay there again.

This is my wonderful husband.  I don’t have many pictures of him without his video camera.  He wanted to capture EVERYTHING!

We finally made it!  We had a VERY long delay in Detroit the day we left so we didn’t make it to Rome until midnight and then had to drive 2 hours to Assisi.  Luckily Gio’s best friend Carlo met us at the airport and drove us!

Random poppies growing in the field.  Assisi is the town in the background.

This was in a nice sitting area surrounded by trees and flowers at the B&B.  Very peaceful.

Transparent Rejects

I recently had my Senior Capstone midterm and these poor guys didn’t make the cut.  For my capstone I am doing camera movement.  I wanted the subject to be a cold and desolate scene so that I can transform them into something beautiful with their movement.  Apparently the capstone committee didn’t like that idea and think these just look blurry and out of focus.  That’s the point, though.

I love how these turned out and will keep them forever and ever.

Oh well, I will just have to save these and have my own gallery show someday :)

Abstract Calendar

It’s been a WHILE since my last post but it’s not like anyone follows me other than my husband..  Oh well.

For my final in Photographic Applications II last sememester, we, as a class, put together a black and white abstract calendar.  Here are some of the pieces I submitted for it.

^This is one that the class chose to be in the calendar.  It got the month of May, when I graduate!

^The other one they picked for March.

I wouldn’t have picked the two the class picked.  I don’t think they were the best.  Anyone else agree?  I think there are several in here that are a lot better than those!

Be Like Group F64

So our last assignment we were told to embody the work of Group F64.  This group includes Ansel Adams, Imogen Cunningham, and Edward Weston… Amazing photographers if you haven’t seen their work.  Their photographs are so sharp and contrasty!  So here are mine, done with painting with light (because that is my favorite).

Potato Flake Dandruff

These are the photos I took for a product shoot for class.  The Head and Shoulders ones are my favorite!

Photographing Glass

For my most recent project in Photographic Applications I had to photograph glass.  I didn’t get to make it to the critique so please let me know what you think about the photos!

This is why I missed class… My newest niece Leighton Lynelle was born!

Black background with complicated lighting since I did this in my living room instead of a studio.

And the white background.  I can’t decide which one I like better, black or white!?
