Our first day in Italy was a nice, relaxing day. After checking our the B&B (see the post before this one), we headed to Perugia to pick up a rental car. Carlo surprised Gio and had a friend of theirs show up!
We then followed Carlo to the Carabinieri Station Gio used to work at. It was SO neat. Here’s a glimpse of Carlo in his uniform.
After our tour of the station, we stayed at Gio’s parent’s house for a while and chatted (more like listened and nodded since they didn’t speak English. We didn’t learn enough Italian either :/) We knew how to ask where Veneto Street was in Rome, though. Useful, huh? But seriously, we learned more than that but it was just the basics so Giovanni had to be our translator the entire time.
Here is my Mom with Gio and his Momma. His Mom is most likely laughing because we weren’t speaking Italian well enough!
I could have stayed in their yard for hours. roses. lavender. olives. cherries. pomegranates. hazelnuts. jasmine. figs. loquats. MORE CHERRIES. They were the best I have ever tasted!

Aside from the vegetation, the view was breathtaking. There was a run down farm house in the distance and it was gorgeous! Definitely not like our run down barns that look haunted. Or some creepy person is using it as their permanent residence.
Best. Cherries. Ever.
Caught a good one of Gio’s Dad.
And his shoes. Couldn’t leave out his shoes.
Last but not least, their bathroom tile. This was insanely amazing! I felt like I was in the Ministry of Magic!! That small step was tricky though. I’m pretty sure John and I both almost face-planted into the bathroom door. I would tell myself while washing my hands, “Ok, Tonya, don’t forget that there’s a small step right there.” Seconds later you’d hear my ridiculously heavy footstep on the floor. You know when you’re walking along and you see steps and you think it’s closer than it really is and do a monster-hard stomp on the ground. It was like that but with a bigger danger factor.
